LANGUAGE/Literacy and Elemental Skills for the Workplace *
Traditionally, ESL courses are academically oriented with a strong focus on grammar, academic reading and writing.
This program differs in that it is designed for clients with language limitations, whose goal is direct entry into the workforce. Language is taught to meet goals for life skills such as workplace communication, social communication, health and safety and information seeking.
Upon completion of this course, clients will be more confident in their ability to understand and communicate at a higher level to meet workplace needs. They will be less at risk with health and safety concerns and will be able to problem solve more effectively.
Program Goals:
* THIS PROGRAM CAN BE ADAPTED TO STUDENTS WHO ARE PROFICIENT IN ENGLISH BUT LACK FORMAL EDUCATION AND ARE ENTERING THE WORKFORCE
(Essential Skills training using HRDC resources and standards are integrated into all of our programs)

- To develop language and elemental skills in relation to practical workplace requirements in all areas of reading/writing/numeracy
- To develop workplace language skills to function actively and effectively within a wide variety of work related situations.
- To develop basic computer literacy in MS Office, E-Mail, and Internet skills in order to maximize employability.
- To understand signs and documents relating to safety issues, practices as well as rights and responsibilities in the workplace using the SafeAbility curriculum.
