  • Introduction to Job Search Resources (e.g. job boards, internet, print media)

 

 

WEEK 2

 

Resume writing

  • Continued work on resumes

Exploring the Media for Work & Learning

  • Continued use of Job Search Resources

Introduction to Portfolio development

  • Students begin to assemble documents demonstrating knowledge, skills, interests & achievements

  • Brainstorming job search techniques, problem solving, job opportunities

Exploring types of Businesses & Organizations

Company size, industry type, profit vs. non-profit, union vs. non-union
 

 

WEEK 3

 

Portfolio Development

  • Continued work on portfolio of knowledge, skills, interests & achievements

Knowing your audience

  • Self promotion, Assessing audience, adapting behaviour to specific audience

Interview Skills

  • Introduction to interview skills, format of interviews, common questions & answers, socio-cultural issues, body  language, preparation for mock interviews/mock interviews

Job Search Skills

  • Continued use of Job Search Resources, hidden job market, creating an action plan

Networking

  • Methods and techniques, purposes and use

Identifying opportunities, trends & alternate work styles

  • Contract work, part-time vs. full time, virtual office, job sharing, self-employment

Interpersonal & Teamwork Skills
